This refers to the Damaru, the sacred drum of Shiva, which is shaped like an hourglass and is the symbol of creation.
It is often seen in depictions of Shiva in his right hand, opposite Fire in his left hand, the symbol of destruction.
The composition is in three speeds, with a short ending. The shape of the phrases resembles shape of the drum.
