Teaching
Miles Okazaki’s main platform for teaching can be found on Patreon. The goal of this project is to provide high quality information to a large online community for a very low cost ($5/month through the link above, or $7.50/month through the Patreon app). Featured on this site is a series of videos going through every composition by Thelonious Monk, demonstrations of guitar technique, theory, explanations of pages from his book, ideas about composition, listenings sessions with favorite recordings, recommended reading, guided meditative practice, his work in electronic music, and many other topics.
Okazaki also currently teaches guitar and jazz improvisation at Princeton University. His previous appointments include Associated Faculty at the University of Michigan from 2013 to 2022, The Banff Centre (2012–2015), private lessons and workshops at The New School, Queens College, The Juilliard School, and dozens of master classes in institutions in the United States, Europe, and Asia.
